Brief History
Liberia, to say the least, is very unique. The first african republic founded in 1847, by freed American and Caribbean slaves, had a relatively peaceful history up until the 1980’s where a military coup broke and spiraled into a full blown civil war that recently ended in 2005. The country is recovering and is also making strides to becoming the peaceful nation that it once was. There are signs of progress from the street lights to running water; mainly in central Monrovia (capital) but these basic services are entering other parts of Monrovia and eventually the rest of the country. It’s a process and takes time. Anyway, that was a synopsis of the country; to give you an idea.
Where do I start?
Ok! So let’s see, Liberia is obviously no America or Canada or (insert country here). Not what you’ll call a travel destination or a vacation spot, but I did spend part of my vacation there and I must say I love this place and I’m proud to call it home. From the crowded taxis to the food to those annoying motorcycles (pem pem), Liberia is amazing. I had a blast in Liberia and I’m looking forward to returning to Liberia in December. Here are some of my favorite pics I took while I was there.
